The First Six Weeks

Ezra less than 12 hours after birth.

Quite a blur, the first six weeks whizzed by us all. John was home for five of them which was great for every member of the family. My mother came for the fifth week and then both sets of grandparents and one aunt arrived to meet him the day he turned 6 weeks old.

Ezra is so different from Jonah. He is more sensitive to sound, touch, and motion than I ever remember Jonah being. He was quite fussy for 2-3 weeks starting at day 13. I remember this clearly because we had a Dr. visit and said he was easy and then we went home and he started his happy hour fussiness that very night!. He is much more mellow now that I've eliminated foods from my diet. He finally started smiling at us right around six weeks and they quickly progressed from a partial smile to a complete ear-to-ear grin with nose crinkling giggles and coos.

It is so precious my heart melts and my eyes well up with tears of joy and appreciation - all of these weeks with a serious and often times unsettled GI tract and finally these moments of connection and happiness that we both can share. I honestly didn't know how much love my heart could pour out into the world until he was born.
